MEET OUR STAFF
Misa Yanagisawa, MSW
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
No matter where you are right now, life is a challenging journey. Sometimes navigation is easy; other times, just getting by is a struggle. Our family and friends usually give us all the external guidance we need…but, when things get out of control, professional support can be invaluable. Counselors and therapists serve in the same type of guidance role as our loved ones naturally do, but the professionals are trained to use evidence-based scientific methods of support.
Our emotions arise from assumptions, thoughts — our personal philosophies and cultures. Cognitive Behavior Therapy works by providing a structured analysis of our feelings, and Dialectical Behavior Therapy seeks wisdom from harmonizing our logical and emotional minds. Art Therapy guides you to discover something that you were unaware of when you started drawing — even if what you find had been inside you all along. Emotional trauma causes psychological wounds that can sometimes be difficult to understand; Trauma Therapy shows you the way out of the maze. In the end, everybody wants to sleep well, to ease the pain of emotional distress, and to be happy.
My role as a therapist is to lend you strength as you walk through your journey. It will be my honor to stand by and support you through your challenges, and it will be my privilege to see you off when you have the strength to continue on your own. You will always be welcomed back whenever you need help across whatever roads trouble you in the future. I will be there for you like an old friend: this is my model of psychotherapy.
My professional experience is in both child and adult mental health therapy for groups and individuals as well as crisis management. I have helped people with mood, anxiety, and psychotic disorders, as well as those struggling with substance abuse and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. My training has given me expertise in Cognitive Behavior Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy, Motivational Interview, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing, Art Therapy, and Play Therapy. I collaborate with psychiatric and medical providers and I coordinate services with community agencies and behavioral health authorities to provide an integrated health care solution. I especially focus on cultural awareness and the strength that diverse populations provide as a resource for healing and personal growth.
