Roberto A. Sebastian Jr., M.D
In 2004, Dr. Sebastian finished his psychiatric residency training at the Harvard Medical School South Shore Psychiatric Training Program in Massachusetts. During his fourth year residency, Dr. Sebastian served as the PRIME Chief Resident at the West Roxbury VA Medical Center, a Harvard Medical School affiliated training facility, where he evaluated and treated US veterans with mental illnesses. In 2005, he completed his Charles Steinberg Fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at the University of Rochester Medical Center, Rochester, NY. Dr. Roberto Sebastian graduated from the University of the City of Manila College of Medicine, Philippines in 1993. He was ranked 8th in his class and placed number one in his medical class who took the Philippine Medical Licensure Board Examination in 1994.
Dr. Sebastian is Board Certified and Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology in the Specialty of Psychiatry and in the Subspecialty of Forensic Psychiatry. He is an active general member of the American Psychiatric Association (APA); Arizona Psychiatric Society; American Academy of Psychiatry and the Law; American College of Forensic Psychiatry (ACFP); and International Academy of Mental Health and the Law (IAMHL).
Since coming to Arizona in 2005, Dr. Sebastian focuses on providing mental health services to people with serious mental illnesses. He worked with ValueOptions as the Forensic ACT psychiatrist evaluating and treating psychiatric patients who are underserved and repeatedly involved with the legal system. Dr. Sebastian is currently affiliated as a staff psychiatrist with Partner in Recovery in Mesa, AZ.
Dr. Sebastian served as an expert witness for civil and forensic psychiatric issues. Dr. Sebastian has an extensive experience and training in evaluating various forensic issues such as but not limited to competency(to sign a will, to consent to treatment, to stand trial, to sign a business contract), insanity/criminal responsibility, disability claim, dangerousness evaluation, and work limitations etc.
Dr. Sebastian recognizes the impact of psychological stressors to an individual and his/her loved ones. Dr. Sebastian believes that the patient is empowered to make informed medical decision through treatment education and therapeutic alliance. Dr. Sebastian's goal is to help an individual through a biopsychosocial approach, i.e., treating the person as a whole. Through such process, Dr. Sebastian hopes that the person can achieve his full potential, both physically and mentally.
